FSRealistic+ enables both audio and visual effects around a variety of unique helicopter characteristics.

We are flight simmers! And it’s only natural that we are attracted to anything that makes our helicopters in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 feel more alive. FSRealistic+ from rkApps aims to deliver exactly that, and after testing it in a range of scenarios, I’ve found it adds a noticeable layer of immersion that default aircraft simply don’t provide (yet!).

Sound and Camera Effects That Add Presence

FSRealistic+ introduces a wide set of sound effects that fill in the subtle cues missing from many helicopter add-ons. Airflow around the airframe, rotor reflections off the ground, and engine blast effects all contribute to a more convincing sense of movement and environment.

Alongside the audio, the add‑on enhances cockpit motion with small, believable camera reactions. These aren’t exaggerated shakes (unless you dive into the settings and make it that way!); they mimic the natural movement of a pilot’s head responding to vibration, turbulence, and turns. Compared to the fixed default camera, which feels to me like a mounted GoPro, the difference is immediate.

How It Works With ChasePlane

FSRealistic+ requires Parallel 42’s ChasePlane, and the two tools complement each other well. ChasePlane provides the cleverly-coded base for camera control; FSRealistic+ taps into that and then adds the audio layer and the micro‑motions that give the helicopter a sense of physicality.

In turns, you can make the camera subtly anticipate the bank. In hover, gentle vibration adds life to the cockpit. On touchdown, the head camera reacts to your landing, sometimes with a bit of honesty about how smooth (or not!) it really was!

Why This Matters for Helicopter Simmers

Helicopter developers like Taog’s Hangar already produce excellent work, but MSFS’s sound engine is complex, and certain sensory details are difficult to implement natively. FSRealistic+ fills in those final gaps that make a helicopter feel like a machine with mass, airflow, and vibration.

After testing, the immersion boost is clear. It may take some time to dial in the settings to your preference, but the added realism is worth the effort.

Also, you can take a shortcut! Every FSRealistic+ user can save to the cloud their profile for each helicopter model and, if you don’t want to develop your own, you’re free to download and adapt those instead.

Final Thoughts

FSRealistic+ and ChasePlane together offer a meaningful improvement to helicopter immersion in MSFS 2024. For simmers who value realism and presence, and who aren’t exclusively using VR, this combination is well worth exploring.

Important Notes Before Trying It

  • Virtual Reality is not yet supported.

  • ChasePlane is required for FSRealistic+ to function.

  • The add‑on is available now from the rkApps store for USD $29.99.

  • rkApps offers upgrade pricing for those who bought FSRealistic Pro.

  • You can try FSRealistic+ free for seven days, but you’ll need ChasePlane first.

What I’m working on

I’m launching this newsletter and its accompanying site! My goal is for this to be an effective compliment to my existing content around MSFS 2024 helicopters. And it’s a central part of my ongoing mission: “Let’s take your helicopter sim flying to the next level together—building confidence, mastery, and fun!”.

I really hope you like the newsletter. Could it be better? Please let me know!

What I’m looking forward to

  • Taog’s Hangar ‘Dauphin’

  • Miltech/Stratosphere Bo-105

  • Digital Aeronautics Mi-2

  • Updated Power Lines from Mamu Design
