Pimax Crystal Super QLED offers phenomenal brightness and clarity

Recently, I had the opportunity to try out the Pimax Crystal Super QLED 50 PPD edition, which Pimax kindly loaned me. I was particularly interested in this model because of its slightly wider field of view compared to the 57 PPD edition. I had a hunch that the wider view would help with the tricky art of low-speed helicopter maneuvers.

From the moment I put it on, I was struck by the incredible brightness—I was stepping into a truly vivid world. The 3840x3840 resolution is simply razor-sharp. Whether you're examining the instruments inside a helicopter or just enjoying the scenery, everything appears astonishingly clear.

I was also impressed by how well my NVIDIA 5080 handled the headset. Even at full resolution and on low to medium settings, I achieved consistent 36fps at 72Hz while the clarity was top-notch. The one bottleneck I noticed in the 5080 was VRAM rather than processing power, but overall it delivered a fantastic visual experience.

In terms of comfort, I found the Super comparable to the Pimax Crystal Light, even though the Super is slightly narrower up front. The default audio is a bit of a letdown, much like on the Crystal Light, but my Sennheiser headphones slip on over the headband just fine, and you can always consider Pimax’s DMAS audio upgrade option.

In short, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Pimax Crystal Super for anyone looking to upgrade their headset or jump into VR with the assurance that, for the premium asking price, they’re getting premium image quality.
